- 501 : Pope Symmachus is charged with various crimes, but declares that he is not subject to secular criminal justice.
- around 501: Gundobad had the Burgundian people's law codified as Lex Gundobada .
- 502 : with an attack by the Sassanid Kavadh I on the Eastern Roman Empire under Anastasios I , a sixty-year period of peace ends. The fighting lasted until 505 ; 506 a ceasefire is concluded.
- February 5, 506: The Visigoth King Alaric II had popular law codified in the Lex Romana Visigotho and published the Lex Romana Visigothorum , a collection of Roman law.
- 507 to 511 : Clovis I codified the people's law of the Salian Franks in the Lex Salica .
- 507: Victory of the Franks under Clovis over the Visigoths under Alaric II; the latter finds death, and the Goths largely withdraw from Gaul: end of the Tolosan Empire .
