Eastern Roman Empire / Persian Empire
- The Eastern Roman Emperor Anastasios I had the Eastern Syrian border fortress Dara, west of Nisibis, fortified against the Persians .
- After more than three years of siege and payment of a large ransom, the city of Amida returns to Roman ownership after two years. In the following years the emperor had the fortifications of the city reinforced again.
- Anastasios I and the Sassanid great king Kavadh I conclude an armistice in the Roman-Persian War , which is limited to seven years.
Germanic empires in Europe
- February 5 : Leges Visigothorum : The Visigoth King Alaric II had popular law codified in the Lex Romana Visigothorum and published it as Breviarium Alaricianum , a collection of Roman law. Unlike his father Eurich , as an Arian he is tolerant of his Catholic subjects. In 506 he allowed them to hold a church meeting in Agde .
- The Visigoths of Alaric conquer Tortosa . The usurper Peter is captured and executed.
- 502 or 506: The Franks under Clovis I finally defeat the Alemanni (probably near Strasbourg ) and also defeat an army of the Thuringians . The northern Alemannic settlement area, presumably up to the current dialect border between Alemannic and South Franconian , finally comes under Franconian rule. A part of the Alemanni fled south to Raetia and placed themselves there under the protection of the Ostrogoth king Theodoric .
religion
- September 10th : The Synod of Agde ends. It forbids the construction of double monasteries , i.e. monasteries for monks and nuns in the same place, and makes various resolutions to strengthen church discipline. The Catholic dioceses in the Visigoth- ruled part of Gaul are more closely united.
Died
- September 16 : Caretene , Queen of the Burgundians, presumed wife of Gundobad
- Peter , Roman usurper
- 506/ 507 : Lawrence , anti-pope
- 506/ 507 : Severinus of Agaunum , saint of the Catholic Church
