- 520 : Theodoric the Great has his tomb built in Ravenna , the mausoleum of Theodoric .
- 523 : The philosopher Boethius , who had recently been promoted to the highest state official in the Ostrogoth Empire, is imprisoned by King Theodoric the Great on charges that Boethius conspired against him. In prison, Boëthius wrote his main work The Consolation of Philosophy .
- 524 : The Burgundians beat the Franks in the Battle of Vézeronce .
- 525 : In 1278 (according to the Roman era ) the Christian monk Dionysius Exiguus suggests that our era begin with the birth of Christ. He calculates that this must have taken place 525 years ago, i.e. H. in the year 753 according to the Roman era. He sets the year 525 as the current year .
- August 30, 526 : Theodoric the Great dies.
- August 1, 527 : Justinian I becomes his successor as Eastern Roman emperor after the death of his uncle Justin I.
- February 19, 528 : Justinian I orders the creation of the Corpus iuris civilis .
- 529 : Benedict of Nursia founds a monastery on Monte Cassino and thus the Benedictine order .
- 529: The Academy of Plato in Athens is closed as a pagan relic of Emperor Justinian I. Some of the academy's philosophers (e.g. Simplikios ) were accepted a little later in Persia .
