Eastern Roman Empire
- 532 : Nika uprising in Constantinople : The circus parties rise up against Emperor Justinian I and plan to appoint Flavius Hypatius (a nephew of Anastasios I ) as the new emperor. Justinian's wife Theodora I is said to have played a decisive role in the suppression of the movement. The military leaders Belisarius and Narses are charged with overthrowing the rebels; over 30,000 people are killed in the process, Hypatius and his brother are also executed, the city's Senate is largely disempowered; Hagia Sophia , which was partially damaged during the five days of unrest , is being rebuilt.
- 532: In autumn (presumably in September) Eastern Current and the Sassanid Empire make an "Eternal Peace". This agreement gives Justinian freedom of action with regard to the West.
- 533 : Eastern Roman troops under Belisarius begin surprisingly successful operations against the North African Vandals , whose empire is smashed in 534 after only two battles.
- November 16, 534: Emperor Justinian I publishes the revised version of the Codex Iustinianus .
- 535 : Beginning of the reconquest of Italy by Eastern Roman troops.
- 536 : During his stay in Constantinople, Pope Agapitus I succeeds in taking Emperor Justinian I against the city's Monophysite patriarch, Anthimus I, who is deposed and replaced by Menas.
- December 25, 537 : Hagia Sophia in Constantinople completed.
