Events
- The philosopher Boëthius , who had recently been promoted to the highest civil servant in the Ostrogoth Empire, is imprisoned by King Theodoric the Great on charges that Boëthius conspired against him. In 524 Boëthius wrote his main work The Consolation of Philosophy in prison .
- Amalaric is officially declared King of the Visigoths .
- The empire of Aksum also controls parts of Yemen .
- 521/522 : Yusuf Asʾar Yathʾar becomes king of the Himyars in Yemen through a coup against Mu'di Karab Ya'fir . He is the only proven Jewish ruler of the empire, possibly in order to maintain an independent position between the great powers of Eastern Europe , Persia and Aksum. Shortly after taking power, Yusuf Asʾar Yathʾar took action against the Himyar Christians, the Ethiopians living in Himyar and the Arab tribes who sympathize with Ethiopia .
