Liu Xie
Liu Xie ( Chinese 劉 勰 , Pinyin Liú Xié ; * around 465 ; † 522 ) was a Chinese author . His book The literary sense and the dragon carving ( Chinese 《文心雕龍》 , Pinyin Wén Xīn Diāo Lóng ) is considered the most important work on aesthetics and is also the first literary criticism of China. It consists of 50 chapters ( 篇 ) and follows the numerological and prophecy-like principles of the I Ching .
Liu Xie was from what is now Jiangsu Province and lived during the Liang Dynasty . His curriculum vitae is recorded in Liang's book. He was a follower of Buddhism and helped to publish the sutras in the Ding Lin Monastery ( 定 林寺 ) until his death .
