Ostrogoth Empire
- Theodoric the Great , King of the Ostrogoths , appoints the philosopher and theologian Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius as consul . Like his father Manlius Boethius before him, he holds the office without colleagues.
Empire of the Longobards
- Wacho murders his uncle Tato and makes himself king of the Lombards . A little later he sent troops across the Danube and conquered Pannonia as far as the Drava. In the same year he married Raicunda , the daughter of Bisinus , the king of the Thuringians , who went with her mother to the kingdom of the Longobards . However, the marriage remains childless.
- A war breaks out between the Gauten and the Svear in what is now Sweden.
Asia
- Bhanugupta , ruler of the north Indian Gupta empire, loses a battle against the Alchon under Toramana and has to flee to Bengal . This loss of the most important areas of the north finally ushered in the end of the Gupta Empire: the Alchon win Kashmir and Panjab , the Gupta Empire begins to disintegrate. India is again divided among the local principalities.

- around 510: The Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata developed in the first chapter Gitikapada of his book Aryabhatiya his own number system, the so-called Aryabhata code , in order to write his mathematical formulas in Sanskrit verses. Numbers are denoted by syllables.
