  • around 500: In the legendary battle of Mons Badonicus , the Romano-British, under their alleged military leader Ambrosius Aurelianus, succeed in a victory against the Anglo-Saxons , whose advance in Central England is halted until the 570s. Historicity, exact year and exact location of the battle are disputed; most likely the 490s (503 at the latest) and the Bath area ; the Anglo-Saxons should AELLE have led by Sussex, later sources associate on the British side Artus with the battle.
