Franconia / Burgundy
- Battle of Dijon : The Frankish king Clovis I intervenes in Burgundy in favor of the Geneva sub-king Godegisel against the upper king Gundobad , who resides in Lyon and whose troops are defeated in the battle of the Ouche near Dijon . Gundegisel then triumphs as Burgundian ruler in the capital Vienne , but Gundobad himself manages to escape to Avignon , where he agrees to pay tributes with Clovis, so that he recognizes him as king.
Vandals / Ostrogoths
- Thrasamund , ruler of the Vandal Empire in North Africa, marries Amalafrida , the sister of the Ostrogoth king Theodoric the Great , after having formed an alliance with him. Theodoric ceded the north-west of Sicily, including the port city of Lilybaeum , to the Vandals as a dowry.
Britain
- around 500: In the legendary battle of Mons Badonicus , the Romano-British, under their alleged military leader Ambrosius Aurelianus, succeed in a victory against the Anglo-Saxons , whose advance in Central England is halted until the 570s. Historicity, exact year and exact location of the battle are disputed; most likely the 490s (503 at the latest) and the Bath area ; the Anglo-Saxons should AELLE have led by Sussex, later sources associate on the British side Artus with the battle.
