- Clovis I conquered the Rhine Franconian Empire and thus reunited the largest individual groups of the Franks , which had been separate for decades .
- Around 509: Clovis had the Frankish petty kings still in office murdered to secure his sole rule; this also ends the division between Rhine Franconia and Sal Franconia . The Frankish empire becomes a unified monarchy, the royal crown hereditary in the Merovingian dynasty , that is, under Clovis's sons.
