Empress Suiko
  • On the initiative of her son-in-law Shōtoku, the Japanese Empress Suiko sends ambassadors to China of the Sui dynasty to the court of Emperor Yangdis for the first time . Since then, students and monks have been sent to the Chinese Empire on a regular basis , leading to political, cultural and religious exchanges.

Boniface III is elected Pope on February 19 to succeed Sabinianus, who died a year ago . The previous deacon and envoy of the Pope at the court of Constantinople stipulated during his brief pontificate that no one may talk about a successor to a Pope while the Pope is still alive. Violation will be punished with excommunication . Furthermore, no new Pope may be elected until the old Pope has been dead for three days. Boniface III dies after almost nine months on Petri's throne. on November 12th . After his death there was a vacancy until the summer of the following year.

Buddhism in Japan

The Buddhist Hōryū-ji temple in Ikaruga , the world's oldest still existing wooden building, is completed. The temple and a Buddha statue will be built by Shōtoku , son of the late Emperor Yōmei , and Empress Suiko , who thus meet the wishes of the deceased who wanted to fulfill a vow with the construction.
