Boniface III
Boniface III (* in Rome ; † November 12, 607 ) was Pope from February 19, 607 until his death.
Boniface was a deacon and envoy of the Pope to the court of Constantinople before he was elected Pope. As the emissary of Gregory I , he vigorously advocated that the Emperor Phocas denied the Patriarch of Constantinople, Kyriakos, the title of ecumenical patriarch that the Synod of Constantinople had given him.
Boniface also stipulated that no one should talk about a successor to a Pope while the Pope is still alive. Violation should be punished with excommunication . In addition, a new Pope cannot be elected until the old Pope has been dead for three days.
