Ikaruga ( Japanese 斑鳩 町 , - chō ) is a city in Ikoma district in the Japanese prefecture of Nara .
Attractions
Ikaruga is home to the Hōryū-ji and Hokki-ji Buddhist temples , which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site Buddhist Shrines of Hōryū-ji . The Hōryū-ji includes the oldest wooden buildings in the world and the Hokki-ji the oldest three-story pagoda ( 三重 塔 , Sanjū no kō ) of Japan, which are the national treasures of Japan .
Other temples in Ikaruga are the Chūgū-ji with a Maitreya figure and the oldest silk embroidery in Japan (both national treasures ), Hōrin-ji ( 法輪 寺 ), as well as the Kichiden-ji ( 吉田 寺 ) and the Mimuroyama ( 三室 山 ).
Other religious buildings are the Shinto shrines Ikaruga Shrine ( 斑鳩 神社 , Ikaruga-jinja ) and Tatsuta Shrine ( 龍田 神社 , Tatsuta-jinja ).
Furthermore, there are kofun ( tumuli ), such as the Fujinoki kofun ( 藤 ノ 木 古墳 ), the Okanohara kofun ( 丘 の 原 古墳 ), the Terayama kofun ( 寺 山 古墳 ), etc. v. a. m.

In Ikaruga there are the primary schools Ikaruga, Ikaruga-Higashi (German "Ikaruga East") and Ikaruga-Nishi (German "Ikaruga West"), the secondary schools Ikaruga and Ikaruga-Minami (German "Ikaruga South"), as well as the operated by the prefecture of Nara Hōryū-ji Kokusai Kōtō Gakkō (Eng. "International Hōryū-ji High School").
