history
Kōriyama is an old castle town , in which in the Edo period the Mizuno resided successively from 1615 , 1619 the Okudaira , 1639 the Honda , 1679 Fujii-Matsudaira , from 1685 again the Honda and finally from 1724 the Yanagisawa .
The place received city rights on January 1, 1954.
economy
Yamatokōriyama is known for its koi breeding. During the Edo period , samurai began to cultivate these goldfish as a sideline. Yamatokōriyama's koi farming industry is the largest in Japan today. However, due to a lack of interest on the part of the younger generations, this is declining.
