- Islamic expansion : The Muslim Arabs conquer the province of Khorasan and take the cities of Herat and Merw .
 
The last Persian great king Yazdegerd III. is murdered in Merw in his last retreat before the Islamic expansion . With his death the Sassanid dynasty is extinguished . He is survived by a son indeed, Peroz , but who with his brother Bahram to China to Emperor Tang Gaozong must flee.
