- November 15 : King Oswiu of Northumbria wins the Battle of Winwaed over King Penda of Mercia , who is killed in action. He is succeeded by Peada , his son. In the same battle, Æthelhere , who had achieved Penda military success, was killed. He is inherited as King of East Anglia by his brother Æthelwald .
