- The nobility of Mercias proclaimed Wulfhere king and expelled the Northumbrian foreign rule.
- The Byzantine Emperor Constans II undertakes a campaign in the Balkans . He succeeds in defeating the Slavs in Macedonia and putting the territory there back under Byzantine rule. Some of the defeated Slavs are resettled to Asia Minor .
