Kōtoku
Kōtoku ( Japanese 孝 徳 天皇 , Kōtoku-tennō ; * April 22, 596 ; † November 24, 654 ) was the 36th Tennō of Japan (645-654). His proper name is unclear. He was a brother of the Tennō Kōgyoku . Both were born to the same woman. They were great-grandsons of Emperor Bidatsu . Its crown prince was Prince Nakano Ōe , the first son of Emperor Jomei and Empress Kōgyoku.
His empress was Princess Hashimoto, daughter of Emperors Jomei and Kōgyoku, and sister of Princes Nakano Ōe and Ōama . During his reign from 645 to 654, the Taika reforms took place , which served to centralize the empire and strengthen imperial power. In order to secure the approval of the aristocratic families of Japan, it was determined that only members of the old high nobility would have access to high posts in the new administrative elite of the empire.
