- Pope Gregory the Great pays tribute to the Lombards to get them to withdraw.
- Pybba becomes King of Mercia, succeeding Creoda .
- The Eastern Roman general Priskos inflicted several defeats on the Slavs during Maurikios' Balkan campaigns on Byzantine territory south of the Danube. He followed them across the Danube to what is now Wallachia , where he continued his series of victories. However , he does not obey the order of the emperor Maurikios to continue the campaign in winter. Therefore, he is temporarily out of favor.
