  • Conquest of the Slavs in the Balkans : Beginning of the Balkan campaigns of Maurikios , a long series of mostly successful campaigns by the Eastern Romans against the Avars and Slavs , in which Eastern Roman armies chase after the Avars and Slavs across the Danube in order to inflict defeats on them too. These campaigns will find no earlier than the fall of the Emperor Maurikios following the flare-up again war with Persia 602 / 603 to an end and give the Danubian provinces of the Eastern Roman Empire a respite until at least 612 .
