- Balkan campaigns of Maurikios : Eastern Roman troops under Petros thrust deep into the realm of Avars before and devastate the area up to the Tisza .
- The Longobards under Agilulf begin campaigns of several years against Eastern Roman areas in Italy. Padua rises against Agilulf.

- Pope Gregory the Great sends Mellitus , Justus , Honorius and other missionaries to England to support Augustine of Canterbury . They bring him the pallium , so that Canterbury is now elevated to the archbishopric ; A number of suffragan bishoprics are to arise on the island, of which, however, only the dioceses in London under Mellitus and in Rochester under Justus can be realized (both 604 ).
