The Aérospatiale SN 601 Corvette is a type of aircraft from the French manufacturer Aérospatiale for business trips and other tasks. It is a twin - engine low wing aircraft with retractable landing gear , pressurized cabin and a cross tail . The first flight was on July 16, 1970.

history

End of the 1960 's began Aérospatiale to design a medium-sized jet propelled multipurpose - aircraft that was to take up with a narrow seating up to 12 passengers. The design should primarily be a business jet, but it should also be able to fill various roles such as air taxi, ambulance, freight and training services.

A test machine with the designation SN 600 flew for the first time on July 16, 1970. It was destroyed after 270 flight hours in an accident on March 23, 1971. On December 20, 1972, the first serial machine, the SN 601 , flew , which differed in some points from the prototype and had since been given the name Corvette 100 . The second Corvette, the first in full production standard, flew on March 7, 1973. French flight certification was granted on March 28, 1974. Deliveries began in September 1974. The originally planned delivery of 20 machines in 1974 and six machines per month in the following years had to be abandoned due to a lack of demand. Production ended as early as 1978 after only 39 series machines had been produced, and there was no commercial success due to great international competition in the business aircraft market segment. The plans for an 18-seater Corvette 200 lengthened by a good two meters were not pursued any further. It was the only attempt by Aérospatiale to gain a foothold in the business aircraft market.

Most of the 39 planes built are still in service today, especially with European regional airlines.

description

The aircraft was built in all-metal construction and has an air-conditioned pressurized cabin . The low-set wings are swept back and have double slotted flaps , three spoilers and hydraulically operated air brake flaps on the top and bottom. There are fuel tanks at the ends of the wing. The two jet engines sit in gondolas on the rear fuselage, which is why a cross-tail came for installation to the horizontal stabilizers not to expose the exhaust jet. The retractable single- wheel nose landing gear is equipped with an anti-lock braking system. The cockpit with blind flight instruments can be flown by one or two pilots.

The prototype SN 600 had two JT15D -1 turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney Canada , each with 998 kp thrust, the SN 601 series machines received more powerful JT15D-4 engines.

The fuselage of the SN 601 series aircraft was lengthened compared to the prototype and could accommodate 14 passengers. Small seating, the optional installation of toilets and alternative configurations for various tasks were also offered.
