A house transfer point ( HÜP ) is the point of cable transition from the underground cable of the cable television network to the installation within a building.

The HÜP is the demarcation between network level 3 (local distribution network) and network level 4 (house network). It is often located in the basement or in the house connection room (in new buildings) as well as on the facade . The house network, consisting of coaxial lines , amplifiers, branching devices and distributors, extends between the HÜP and the antenna sockets .

Designs and technology

Until the privatization of the Deutsche Bundespost , the house transfer points were installed by the Post or its contracted company, and since 1995 by Deutsche Telekom AG . When the cable networks were outsourced from the Telekom Group in 1999, the house transfer points were installed by the now private cable network operators or their agents. House transfer points can also be installed in company networks or community reception systems.

The first house transfer points were designed up to 300 MHz. By expanding the cable frequencies used, HÜPs with a final frequency of 450 MHz were installed in the early 1990s. HÜPs with the final frequency of 862 MHz have been installed since the mid-1990s. This now covers all frequency ranges that are used for cable television .

The HÜP has screw terminals for connecting the incoming external underground cable and the outgoing line. Both are coaxial copper conductors with an impedance of 75 ohms. The HÜP also has one or more IEC connection sockets for measuring and testing purposes. All connections of a HÜP are only accessible after opening the housing. Every HÜP can be sealed . As a rule, unused HÜPs should be disconnected and sealed in order to prevent services from being sneaked into (cf. § 265a StGB in Germany).

Grounding

According to VDE regulations, every HÜP must be earthed. If a transfer point cannot be earthed, a galvanic isolator is installed between the HÜP and the house connection amplifier. There are also smaller or local cable television operators who only terminate network level 3 with a galvanic isolator and thus do without the installation of an HÜP.
