Britain around 600

Pybba (also Pibba, Pypba, Pubba, Wibba ; * around 570, † around 606 (615?)) Was an early king of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia from the Iclingas dynasty . The years 593–606 (615?) Are considered to be the reign.

Pybba is said to have been the son and successor of King Creoda , although this claim seems to be based on a mix-up, since the death of a West Saxon named Creoda is mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for the year 593 . Pybba is said to have had twelve sons, including Penda , the future king. The descendants of his sons Cenwalh and Eowa († 642) later also became kings of Mercias. A daughter not named was married to Cenwalh (642–672 / 673), the king of the Gewissæ . Another daughter, from a second marriage to a princess of Gewissæ, is said to have been married to Cadwallon ap Cadfan , the Welsh king of Gwynedd . His direct successor Ceorl was also evidently a relative, without the exact relationship being known.

Several place names derived from Creoda and his successors Pybba and Penda indicate an Anglic colonization in southwestern Mercia on the border with the later developing kingdom of Hwicce that began in Creoda's time .
