John W. Snow

John William Snow (born August 2, 1939 in Toledo , Ohio , USA ) was the 73rd Treasury Secretary of the United States, who took over the post on February 3, 2003 from Paul O'Neill .

Career

From September 1, 1987 to February 17, 1990 and again from April 11, 2000 to November 30, 2000, John W. Snow was President of CSX Transportation and was therefore responsible for operations. At the same time he was from September 1, 1987 to December 31, 1991, and from March 27, 1992 to November 30, 2002 Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the railway company.

At the same time, he was also Chief Executive Officer and President of the parent company CSX Corporation from 1988 to January 2003, and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1991 to 2003.

From 1994 to 1996 he chaired the Business Roundtable , a group of 250 CEOs from the largest US corporations aimed at influencing politicians. The organization played a major role in the adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement NAFTA .

Snow was proposed as Treasury Secretary by President George W. Bush on January 13, 2003 and unanimously approved by the US Senate .

His previous roles included Head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , Assistant Secretary of State, Assistant to Government Affairs, and Assistant Assistant to Politics, Plans and International Affairs.

On May 26, 2006, Snow announced that he would be leaving the post of Finance Minister on July 3, 2006. Henry Paulson was introduced as his successor on May 30th .

Since November 1, 2006, John Snow has been CEO of the international financial investor Cerberus .

Personally

John Snow began studying at Kenyon College and the University of Toledo , where he graduated in 1962. He later received his PhD in economics from the University of Virginia . He graduated from George Washington University in 1967 with a law degree and then taught economics at the University of Maryland and law at George Washington University. He was a visiting fellow of the American Enterprise Institute in 1977 and a Distinguished Fellow of the Yale School of Management between 1978 and 1980 .

Snow lives in Richmond , Virginia with his wife, Carolyn. He has three children and three grandchildren.
