Aegas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aegas (also Aega, Ega or Egua, * unknown; † 641 ) was a Franconian housekeeper in Neustria .

Very little is known about him because of the poor tradition in the sources of the 7th century . He first appeared in 639 when he was appointed by Nanthild , the widow of Dagobert I , after his death as the Merovingian caretaker of Neustria (successor to Gundoald ) and Burgundy . Thus, for a short time, he was able to combine two of the classic three caretaker offices, which shows his special position of power at this point in time. But Aegas died in Clichy as early as 641 . His successor in Neustria was Erchinoald , while he was inherited by Flaochad in Burgundy .
