Flaochad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flaochad (* unknown; † 642 ) was a Franconian housekeeper in Burgundy .

Before the appointment by Nanthild , who also gave him her niece as a wife, as caretaker of Burgundy in 639 nothing is known about him. Only the Chronicle of Fredegar reports about him.

After his appointment as a caretaker, in which he succeeded Aegas , he continued a feud with the noble Willibad , which had probably lasted for a long time . In the palace of Chalon Flaochad tried to kill him with an attack, which however failed. Then Willibad challenged him to a duel, which was then prevented by Amalbert, probably a brother of Flachoad. Finally, he convinced Clovis II. , Willibald at the court in Autun to condemn publicly, prompting Flachoad with the Neustrian house Meier Erchinoald Association and was going along with him Willibald. Willibad was defeated and died fighting. Floachad only survived Willibad by eleven days and then died a gruesome death himself. With Fredegar this is interpreted as a divine judgment against him. His successor in the office of housekeeper was Erchinoald and the caretaker offices of Neustria and Burgundy were finally combined.
