Ardashir III. ( Persian اردشیر Ardaschīr [ ærdæˈʃiːr ]; * at 621; † April 27, 630 ) was Persian great king in the years 628–630.

Ardashir III. was the son of the great king Kavadh II of the Sassanid dynasty . According to Tabari , he was just seven years old when he succeeded him to the throne, his main adviser being Mihr-Adur-Gusnasp. He tried to restore order in the country in which the plague had raged after the lost war against Ostrom in 628 . However, local magnates and, above all, the army commanders had in the meantime gained such influence that the royal central authority effectively disintegrated. Ardaschir was overthrown and murdered by his general Shahrbaraz , who had come to an understanding with the Eastern Roman emperor Herakleios , after a reign of just under a year and a half . According to Theodor Nöldeke , his date of death was April 27, 630.
