biography

Maier comes from Saalbach-Hinterglemm and starts for her home club. In 2011 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Liberec , where she won bronze medals in both giant slalom and slalom. Three years after her first European Cup appearance, she reached the points for the first time in January 2014. At the state championships in 2014 , she only had to admit defeat to Anna Fenninger in the combination . In the 2015/16 season , with five placements among the top ten, she reached third place in the European Cup downhill classification and thus secured a ticket for the upcoming World Cup downhill runs. On January 25, 2017, she won her first European Cup race with the downhill run from Davos . With another victory in Crans-Montana , she won the downhill classification.

Sabrina Maier made her World Cup debut on December 4th, 2015 in the downhill section of Lake Louise . She won first points two weeks later with 23rd place in the combination of Val-d'Isère . In the course of the season she was classified eight more times in the points, with her best result with 20th place in the Super-G in Zauchensee . On November 29, 2016, Maier almost collided with a deer that was crossing the slope in front of her during downhill training in Nakiska, Canada . She commented on the incident on Facebook with a humorous "Waidmannsheil".

In September 2017 she tore a cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in her left knee while training overseas in Chile , which ended the Olympic season prematurely for her. In preparation for the next season, she suffered a fractured tibia and fibula at Copper Mountain . She also missed the 2019/20 season due to another cruciate ligament tear in her left knee.
