Antonello Cuccureddu (born October 4, 1949 in Alghero , Italy ) is a former Italian football player and current football coach .
Career
The Sardinian central defender Antonello Cuccureddu began his career in the mid-1960s at Cagliari Calcio on the side of the legendary striker Luigi Riva . Via Brescia Calcio he finally came to Juventus Turin in 1969 , where he became one of the best pre-stoppers of Serie A in the 1970s and became an Italian international . Between 1975 and 1978 Cuccureddu completed 13 international matches for the Squadra Azzurra . He played his only major tournament at the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 , where he was initially only used as a substitute for Mauro Bellugi . In the last game of the second final round he was there from the start and also played the game for third place against Brazil , which his team lost 2-1. He ended his career at Fiorentina in 1982 after having won six championship titles with Juventus Turin in twelve years.
For the 1994/95 season Cuccureddu was the coach of the Primavera team at Juve . In the 1997/98 season he worked as a coach for third division club Acireale Calcio . Further engagements at FC Crotone , al-Ittihad and US Avellino followed. At Avellino, Cuccureddu was fired shortly before the end of the season and he then accepted a job offer at Sassari Torres . Even there, however, he only lasted one season and he was not very successful in his later engagements at US Grosseto and AC Perugia .
From March 24, 2009 Antonello Cuccureddu worked as a coach at Delfino Pescara 1936 in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , but was dismissed there on January 12, 2010 due to the home defeat against the SS Cavese two days earlier . His successor was the former Italian international Eusebio Di Francesco .
