Hermann Bamberg

Hermann Bamberg (born July 26, 1846 in Wittenberge , Brandenburg province , † October 4, 1928 in Berlin ) was a German-Jewish businessman and Berlin local politician. He made a name for himself as the senior boss of the textile company Gebr. Manheimer and as a long-time member of the Berlin city council .

Bamberg completed an apprenticeship in his father's manufactured goods store in Wittenberge and in 1870 joined the Manheimer brothers' women's coat factory in Berlin, which Valentin and David Manheimer co-founded and of which he became a partner in 1876.

In 1900 he was elected to the Berlin city council, of which he was a member until his death. He held various positions, for example in the area of ​​health care, with the city bank, the exhibition company and with various finance and tax authorities. As an entrepreneur he was a member of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce , and he was also chairman of the Association of German Clothing Industry Associations . In 1904 he joined the Society of Friends .

After the First World War , Hermann Bamberg was appointed to the Provisional Reich Economic Council and also worked as a commercial judge for 26 years . On June 24, 1926, he was awarded honorary citizenship of Berlin for his services .

Hermann Bamberg died on October 4, 1928 at the age of 82 in his apartment in Berlin-Tiergarten of an attack of flu . His grave is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend . The last resting place of Hermann Bamberg (grave location: 5-1) is dedicated as an honor grave of the state of Berlin . Since Bamberg was an honorary citizen of Berlin, the dedication - in contrast to the large majority of Berlin's honorary graves - is not limited in time.
