Berti Capellmann

Hubertine "Berti" Capellmann (later Berti Pingel ) (born October 4, 1918 in Würselen ; † November 23, 2012 there ) was one of the best German table tennis players in the late 1940s and early 1950s . In 1953 she won the German championship in singles. Before that she was German champion in doubles three times.

Berti Capellmann's career

Capellmann practiced competitive sport until the mid-1950s. During this time, she completed 12 international matches. She took part in world championships twice. The attacking player celebrated her greatest successes at national level. From 1935 to 1939 and 1946 to 1954 she was represented at all German championships. The success: a German championship in singles, 3 championships in doubles and 4 championships in mixed. In 1953, the DTTB took them to first place in the national rankings.

Berti Pingel's career

After 1953, it was quiet around Capellmann. But it made a comeback in the mid-1980s. In the meantime she had married and started under the name Berti Pingel at national and international senior tournaments. She won several German championships in singles and doubles as well as several times the European championship in doubles with her partner Ursula Bihl.

Berti Pingel also played tennis. She was still active when she was over 85. She lived in Würselen to the end.

Awards

In April 2002 the city of Aachen awarded her the Karlssiegel for her success in table tennis. In 1984 she had already received the Charlemagne Seal of the city of Aachen, at that time for her regional success in tennis.
