Salvador Sturla

Salvador Arquímedes Sturla Cambiaso (born January 26, 1891 in Santo Domingo ; † October 4, 1975 ibid) was a Dominican musician and composer .

In the mid-1920s, Sturla traveled through the Dominican Republic as a representative of the Compañía Anónima Tabacalera and appeared as a musician in cinemas, social clubs, in parks or in the private homes of friends and acquaintances in the cities he visited. Although he never had any musical training, he composed songs of undeniable musical rank that found a place in the musical history of the Dominican Republic.

In 1927 Antonio Mesa recorded his songs La muñeca and No puedo vivir sin tus palabras with the Trío Borinquen and Trío Quisqueya on record. They were the earliest song recordings made in the Dominican Republic. In 1950 Navidad was recorded by the Trío Ensueño , and a few years later by the tenor Arístides Incháustegui .

Vuelvan mis canciones was recorded by Fernando Casado , the Bolero Azul by the Luis Albertis Orchestra , Marcelino Plácido , Rafael Colón and Pipí Franco . Y Año Nuevo became known in the interpretation of Luchy Vicioso .
