Pipí Franco
Arcadio "Pipí" Franco (born January 12, 1912 in Santiago de los Caballeros , † February 16, 1978 in San Cristóbal ) was a Dominican singer and composer.
Franco performed in the 1940s with one of the most important orchestras in the Dominican Republic, the Orquesta Presidente Trujillo , conducted by Luis Alberti . He toured the USA and the Caribbean with Leopold Stokowski and the All American Youth Orchestra . During this concert tour, recordings were made that made his voice internationally known.
Franco composed a number of pieces that became very popular in the Dominican Republic, including the Merengues Adios negrita (also known as the Virgencita del Consuelo ) and Mensaje ( Arroyito cristalino ). The latter was recorded for Columbia Records by the Luis Albertis Orchestra.
