Andy Pichler (born October 4, 1955 in Weiz , actually Anton Pichler ) is a former Austrian football player and current coach . He completed almost his entire playing career at SK Sturm Graz and is in third place (behind Mario Haas and Günther Neukirchner ) on the record player list .
Career
Player career
Pichler began his career as a soccer player at SC Weiz , where he played from 1964 to 1974, before receiving an offer from Austrian Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz , which he also accepted. In his years with Sturm, which lasted from 1974 to 1986, he ran in 410 championship games and scored 25 goals. In the 1980/81 season he was runner-up with the Blackies , after losing 4-1 to SK Rapid Wien in the last championship game of the season and so in the end was only one point behind FK Austria Wien in the table. In addition, Andy Pichler made it into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup with the Grazers in the 1983/84 season , in which the traditional Styrian club narrowly missed promotion to the semi-finals after a scandalous game. In the spring of 1987 Pichler switched to Donawitzer SV Alpine , where he came to 14 missions before he transferred to VSE St. Pölten in the Lower Austrian capital of St. Pölten in the summer of 1987 . There he played in 26 championship games until 1988. He came to another 22 missions for the team between 1993 and 1994.
International
Pichler was called up 41 times for the Austrian national team , but only came to 11 appearances. He made his debut on December 15, 1976 in the away game against Israel in Tel Aviv , which the red-white-red team won 3-1. He played the full 90 minutes of the game. Pichler also took part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain .
Coaching career
After the end of his career as an active soccer player, he started his coaching career while he was still playing at VSE St. Pölten. From 1988 to 1990 Pichler was a trainer with the Sankt Pöltner before he came to Fürstenfeld in 1990 to the local SC Fürstenfeld . He coached the sports club in southeast Styria until 1992, when he moved to southern Burgenland to join the local sports club Güssing , which he also only coached for two years. In 1994 Andy Pichler returned to the coaching position of VSE St. Pölten, which he gave up a year later to switch to SC Fürstenfeld again. From 1995 to 1997 he was the coach of the Fürstenfelder, before he moved just one district further to Feldbach for SV Feldbach. After three years in Feldbach, he came back to Burgenland in 2000 and became the coach of SV Eltendorf. He spent his longest time as a trainer with the Eltendorf team, which lasted from 2000 to 2004. In 2004 Pichler signed a coaching contract with USV Gnas. Only two years later he left the football club from Gnas to take over the vacated coaching position at the fifth-class USV Unterlamm. After six defeats in a row, Pichler was dismissed by the club from Unterlamm in the fall season 2008/09 . Andy Pichler has been the trainer of USV Söchau in south-eastern Styria since 2009.
