Francesco Acquaviva (born October 4, 1665 in Naples , † January 9, 1725 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Career

Acquaviva came from the family of the Dukes of Atri of the noble Acquaviva family . Under the Popes Innocent XI. , Alexander III. , Innocent XII. and Clemens XI. he held numerous offices from 1697 to 1706, including a. he was titular archbishop of Larissa in Thessalia and nuncio in Spain. The episcopal ordination donated him on December 22nd, 1697 Cardinal Vicar Gaspare Carpegna ; Co- consecrators were Gregorio Gaetani d 'Aragona , titular patriarch of Alexandria , and Antonio Spinelli , bishop of Melfi e Rapolla . Pope Clement XI. Acquaviva elevated to cardinal in 1706 and gave him the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola (1707–1709), later Santa Cecilia in Trastevere (1709–1724). Pope Benedict XIII took him in 1724 in the cardinal class of the Cardinal Bishops and awarded him the diocese of Sabina .

Cardinal Acquaviva was a participant in two papal elections , namely the Conclave in 1721 and the Conclave in 1724 .

He died in Rome and was buried in his titular church, Santa Cecilia in Trastevere .
