Wees-Bahnhof (also: Wees Bahnhof and Weesbahnhof) is a district of the municipality Wees in the Schleswig-Flensburg district .

The district is located directly south of the main town Wees. Wees-Bahnhof can be reached from the western city of Flensburg via Bundesstraße 199 (Nordstraße). At the confluence with Nordstrasse, a sign indicating the location indicates the Wees-Bahnhof district. On the western edge of the district, towards Kauslunder Straße , which runs parallel to the main road , lies Himmershoi . The Glücksburger Chaussee coming from Glücksburg also ends at the confluence of Wees-Bahnhof .

history

In 1885, a stop on the Flensburg circular railway was set up near Himmershoi . On an area map from 1926 near Himmershoi, in addition to the stopping point of the circular path, an overgrown development was shown. The buildings in question were initially usually counted as part of the neighboring Himmershoi. The rails of the circular railway were also used by the Flensburg tram since 1925 , so that the town has been well connected to the city in terms of traffic since then. With the construction of Nordstrasse (B 199), the circular path was dismantled in 1952/53. Around the 1950s, the street Am Bahnhof, running from west to east, was extended to the south by the street Heideweg . The new district began to grow. Nowadays it reaches as far as Weesrieser Straße to the east , which, as its name suggests, leads to Weesries . Like the rest of Wees, Wees-Bahnhof was connected to the district heating network of Stadtwerke Flensburg around 2010 .

In memory of the painter Barthel Gilles, a path in Wees was named after him.

  • In the former station building of Wees-Bahnhof the Wees-Bahnhof restaurant ( location ) still existed in the 1960s . Today the building is used as a residential building.
  • Although there is no longer a train stop today, there is a bus stop at Wees-Bahnhof for bus route 1605.
  • A pedestrian crossing (with associated traffic lights) across Nordstrasse (B 199) connects the Wees-Bahnhof district with the main town of Wees.
  • The painter Barthel Gilles lived in the house at Heidenweg 29 until his death . There is a wall painting of a sailing ship by Barthel Gilles on the building. The path that leads from Wees-Bahnhof to the Weesrieser Gehölz in the south has been called Barthel-Gilles Weg ( location ) since 2009 .
