Himmershoi ( Danish : Himmershøj , partly also Himmerigshoved ) is a place in the municipality of Wees in the Schleswig-Flensburg district , which mainly consists of the Himmershoi street of the same name .

location

Himmershoi is located directly on the city limits of Flensburg . The neighboring area of Blocksberg is already part of the city. From the city of Flensburg to the west, Himmershoi can be reached on the one hand via the now traffic-calmed Kauslunder Straße and on the other via Nordstraße ( B 199 ) in connection with the street Am Bahnhof , which connects to the street Himmershoi in the east. The municipality of Wees assigns the street Am Bahnhof and the neighboring streets to the east to the separate district Wees-Bahnhof . Himmershoi has now also been traffic calmed from the Wees train station side.

There are various elevations southeast of Himmershoi, one of which is probably over fifty meters high.

history

Little is known about the history of Himmershoi. For centuries the Neolithic large stone grave of Wees was located near Himmershoi , which testified to an early settlement until it was destroyed. The place name Himmershoi was first documented in writing in 1649. The component "Himmern-" is derived from the Danish "Himmerig" (Kingdom of Heaven) (cf. also Himmern or Himmerig in the municipality of Harrislee), which used to describe a forest near Wees as a field name. In the Danish-speaking area, the name Himmerig appears more often both as a place and field name. The second component "-hoi" is supposed to go back to Danish "-hoved" ( Anglo-Danish hoi ) for head or projection. The name describes a projection (main) at (m forest) Himmerig.

Himmershoi was and still is the westernmost residential area in the parish of Munkbrarup . Himmershohi used to be a border town of the Duchy of Glücksburg and the Munkbrarupharde to Husbyharde . The place Himmershoi was already entered by name on maps from 1858 and 1863. The place was also named on the map of the Prussian land survey around 1879 and apparently consisted of only a few buildings, possibly just a single courtyard . Sometime around 1900 a stop on the Flensburg circular railway was apparently set up near Himmershoi . Since 1910, the Himmershoi residential area has been on the city and district limits (see there ). On the updated map from 1926, the stopping point mentioned and a grown development could be found near Himmershoi. In the decades that followed, the “Wees-Bahnhof” district emerged from the railway station area to the east. But in the first decades the buildings there were obviously added to Himmershoi. In 1970, the Himmershoi area apparently still had 211 inhabitants. Although the community of Wees now clearly distinguishes between Himmershoi and Wees-Bahnhof, Himmershoi is shown even larger on some local maps. In 2016, the country is Lukas Heinz taught incidentally in Himmershoi number 15 (the highest number of road Himmershoi which is right at the city limits), the Bihof Himmershoi one. The farmer works his eight hectares of land in accordance with Bioland guidelines. He keeps chickens, sheep and cattle. From 2015 to 2017, further development on the south side of the street Himmershoi was apparently planned by the municipality of Wees, but this was prevented by the existing greenery .
