Christopher "Chris" Katongo (born August 31, 1982 in Mufulira ) is a Zambian football player who is active as a striker for Henan Jianye and the Zambian national team . He is married and has three children with his wife. His younger brother Felix Katongo is also a professional footballer.

Club career

Katongo began his football career with three clubs in his native Zambia. In 2004 he moved to South Africa to join Jomo Cosmos . Although he could complete only 15 games in the 2006/07 season, he was the top scorer in the Premier Soccer League , South Africa's top division, with just as many goals .

In January 2007 Katongo signed a four-year contract with the Danish Superliga club Brøndby IF . His debut at Brøndby went as expected, he scored both goals on March 11, 2007 in a 2-0 win against league rivals FC Nordsjælland .

For the 2008/09 season Katongo moves to the then German first division club Arminia Bielefeld . There he signed a three-year contract valid for the first and second leagues . After Bielefeld was relegated from the Bundesliga in 2009, the club got into financial difficulties the following season and was therefore anxious to give up better-earning players, including Katongo. In July 2010 he finally moved to the Greek first division club Skoda Xanthi . The following July 2011, he signed a two and a half year contract with the Chinese Super League Club Henan Jianye .

National team career

As captain of the Zambian national team , Katongo scored a hat-trick in just 20 minutes in a 3-1 win over South Africa on September 9, 2007, helping his country win the group in qualifying for the 2008 African Cup in Ghana.

Katongo was raised to the rank of sergeant for this performance in the Zambian Army . For the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the striker was in the squad of coach Patrick Phiri . Zambia was eliminated in third place with four points from the tournament and Katongo, who scored two goals, was promoted again within the army after the tournament and rose to the rank of staff sergeant . So far, the 1.69 m tall striker has made 53 international matches, with 11 goals for Zambia.
