General
The Zambian armed forces are organized on the internal tray out, even though parts of them repeated on peace missions of the United Nations to participate. The internal mission recently related to keeping UNITA , which is also active in Zambia, and marauding militiamen from Angola in check or to drive them out. In addition, the Barotse Patriotic Front occasionally draws attention to itself, which, as was admitted in 1999, is connected to the Caprivi Liberation Army , an area where Lozi also live, who can easily stock up on weapons in Angola. In October 1997 an amateurishly prepared attempted coup by young officers failed . In June 2002, then President Levy Mwanawasa declared that a planned coup had been uncovered.
A joint defense agreement has been concluded with the Republic of South Africa .
