Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute ( SIPRI , German Stockholm International Peace Research Institute ) is a means for scientific work on questions of conflict and cooperation in the context of global developments in peace and security .
SIPRI was established in 1966 as a foundation by the Swedish government. The institute is located in Solna and has around 50–60 employees. Half of the institute's costs are covered by the Swedish government.
The institute is known for its annual reports on international armaments spending. His studies of armament strength were a numerical basis recognized by all participating states for the disarmament negotiations between East and West. The Stockholm Peace Research Institute publishes annual reports and special documents that address the various challenges of today's globalization .
In 1982 the institute was awarded the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education .
