The Jeshi la Wananchi la Tanzania make up the military of the United Republic of Tanzania with 27,000 soldiers . The armed forces established in 1964 consist of the army , the air force and the navy .
General
The two-year conscription was suspended in 2004. The defense budget amounted to 2014 220 million US dollars .
army
The army with a man strength of 23,000 is divided into five infantry brigades , one tank brigade , three artillery battalions , two Flak - battalions , a mortar battalion, two anti-tank battalions , one engineer battalion ( 121st Engineer Regiment , despite the designation as a regiment has only battalion strength) and a Logistics and support unit.
There are several other 30 T-59 - and 35 T-54 - battle tanks available.

The navy with 1,000 soldiers has seven speed boats and twelve patrol boats . The headquarters are in Kigamboni near Dar es Salaam.
Air Force
The air force with 3,000 members has bases in Dar es Salaam ( Ukonga Air Base ), Mwanza ( Mwanza Air Base ) and Morogoro ( Ngerengere Air Force Base ).
