The Tunisian armed forces comprise around 36,000 soldiers , who are divided into the armed forces, army , air force and navy .
Defense budget
Tunisia spent just under 2.1 percent of its economic output or 836 million US dollars on its armed forces in 2017.
The United States provided the country with military aid of $ 12 million in 2009 .

National Guard
The paramilitary Guard Nationale ( Arabic الحرس الوطني, al-Ḥaras al-Waṭanī) has 15,000 members, including the country's coast guard . However, it is not subordinate to the Tunisian Ministry of Defense , but to the Ministry of the Interior .
