The armed forces of Gabon ( Forces armées gabonaises ) are the armed forces of the central African state of Gabon . They came into being after the country gained independence from France in 1960. The armed forces have 5,000 men.

Members of the military tried again and again against the family rule of the first President of Gabon Léon M'ba . 1964 coup , part of the military against the long-time president LÉON M'BA. At the beginning of 2019 there was another coup attempt by young officers against the absent president, son Léon M'ba. The coup failed after a few hours on the same day.

From 2012 to 2013 soldiers of the Gabonese army took part in a mission in the Central African Republic .

Ground troops

The country's army alone has deployed 1,800 men to protect the president. The army is divided into:

  • Airborne regiment
    • 1 headquarters company
    • 3 airborne companies
    • 1 reconnaissance and support company
  • Armored Reconnaissance Unit (light)
    • 1 staff and logistics company
    • 2 armored squadrons

Furthermore, there are in all the land 8 military districts, each with a motorized infantry - battalion equipped.

The Luftwaffe (Air Force) of the country has three seasons :

There are bases in Libreville , Franceville and Tchibanga . The main types are the Dassault Mirage F1 and the Dassault Mirage 5 .

The Navy uses for patrols on the Atlantic coast currently three French patrol boats of the type P400 . Further ships of the type Kership and the BATRAL class are to be purchased.
