history

On October 12, 1968, the Spanish colony of Equatorial Guinea was granted independence. President Francisco Macías Nguema oriented himself towards the Soviet Union and, as a strategic ally, could count on its support. In the mid-1970s there were around 500 Cuban military advisers in the country. After Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo's military coup in 1979, the armed forces were reorganized.
