The Armée nationale de développement makes up the armed forces of the Comoros with 800 soldiers . The troops have a police-like character and their main task is to maintain internal security.

France has deployed smaller units of its navy and a department of the Foreign Legion on the neighboring island of Mayotte to monitor territorial waters .

General

The defense budget in 2005 was approximately $ 13 million. The Comoros receive military aid from France and South Africa .

There is no conscription .
