The Cameroonian Armed Forces (English "Cameroon Armed Forces", French "Forces armées camerounaises") have a total of around 14,200 active personnel.
In 2016 , military spending amounted to about 500 million $ . This value is above average in comparison with other countries in the region.
The military and the gendarmerie are present in all eight administrative regions, but due to the tensions with Nigeria over the Bakassi Peninsula, they are increasingly present on the Nigerian border. The supreme command of both organizations is de facto directly subordinate to the President ( Paul Biya ).

In the village of Menka near Bamenda , at least 22 people were killed by the armed forces in a hotel on May 27, 2018. According to the government, these are terrorists. Since the end of 2016, the armed forces have been taking action against separatists who are calling for the English-speaking north-west of Cameroon to split off from the French-speaking rest of the country and who in October 2017 proclaimed a "Republic of Ambazonia".

The Territorial Army , headquartered in Yaoundé, is divided into the following battalions :

- five infantry battalions
- an armored reconnaissance battalion

- a pioneer -Bataillon
- a paratrooper battalion
- an anti-aircraft battalion
- a training battalion
- three battalion d'intervention rapidly
In addition, a brigade d'intervention exists rapidly .
The equipment of the Cameroonian army is mainly of French , American and Israeli origin. It has a total of 73 armored vehicles and about 30 unarmored units ( howitzers , mortars , cannons ).

Cameroon's navy consists of 2,200 soldiers and the following three (formerly French ) patrol boats :
- Bakassi (Class P-48)
- L'Audacieux (Class P-48)
- Quarter
Air Force
The official name of the air forces of Cameroon 's Cameroonian Air Force or L 'Armée de l'Air du Cameroun . The equipment is mainly from the countries of the European Union (especially France and Italy ) as well as from the USA and Canada . The air force was built up immediately after the country gained independence in the 1960s . The basic stock at that time were the Dassault MD.315 Flamant (five machines), Max Holste Broussard (seven machines) and Dornier Do 28 (four machines ), which are now out of service.
