The Cameroonian Air Force ( French Armée de l'Air du Cameroun, abbreviated AAC ; English Cameroon Air Force ) is the air force of the armed forces of the Republic of Cameroon .

history

The Cameroonian Air Force was set up on January 1, 1961, still under the name Escadrille Nationale and with a fleet of three aircraft. It was only given the name Armée de l'Air du Cameroun in 1966. In 1973, a Cameroonian officer took over command of the air force for the first time, previously a French soldier had been assigned for this purpose.

Currently, the Cameroonian air force is mainly carrying out operations against the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram , with efforts being significantly increased in May 2014 and the transport fleet being used to supply the units bound in the north of the country and border area with Nigeria and Chad .

bases

The air forces of Cameroon deploy on six locations across the country: Yaounde ( Base aérienne [BA] 101 ), Bertoua ( BA 102 ), Douala ( BA 201 ), Bamenda ( BA 202 ) and Garoua ( BA 301 ). No units are permanently stationed at the base in Ngaoundéré .
