The Dassault MD.315 Flamant is a light twin-engine transport aircraft produced by the French manufacturer Dassault Aviation , which was developed for the French air force shortly after the end of the Second World War .
History and construction
The development work on a light transport aircraft for use in the French colonial areas began in 1946 under the designation MD.303 as a further development of an earlier project for an eight-seat liaison aircraft, the Marcel Bloch MB-30 . The prototype of the MD.303 flew for the first time on February 26, 1947 and was powered by two suspended 6-cylinder in-line Béarn 6D engines. The aircraft is designed as a low-wing aircraft with a double tail unit and has a retractable nose wheel landing gear. The production version was equipped with a hanging 12-cylinder V-engine Renault 12S . The first Flamant was delivered to the French Air Force in 1949 . The aircraft was used for pilot training, navigation training, light transport, maritime surveillance and as a light attack aircraft. During the Algerian War, the machine was equipped for light attacks with North SS.11 and AS.11 anti-tank missiles or with machine guns, bombs and missiles. The Flamant remained in service until 1981.
