The Shaanxi Y-8 or Yunshuji-8 ( Chinese运 -8) is a medium-weight, medium-range transport aircraft produced by the Chinese company Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation . It is based on the Antonov An-12 . Its successor is the Shaanxi Y-9 . There are many varieties of it, including some projects.
history
In the 1960s, China bought many An-12s and also manufactured them under license in their own country. After the Sino-Soviet rift , the Xi'an Aircraft Company worked on renewed production in their own country. The design was finalized in February 1972, and the maiden flight took place in December 1972.
Then production was moved to the Shaanxi Aircraft plant, where test flights resumed in 1975. Series production of the Y-8 began in 1981.
Outside of China, the Shaanxi Y-8 also flies in Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela.
