David Matthieu

David Matthieu (born May 1, 1697 in Berlin ; † June 8, 1756 ibid) was a German portrait painter of the 18th century.

David Matthieu was a royal Prussian court painter and made portraits as paintings in oil but also as miniatures. He married the portrait painter Barbara Rosina Lisiewska in his third marriage , after he had already been married to her sister Dorothea Elisabeth (1711–1740) in his second marriage. In 1738 he made a trip to Paris with the Hereditary Prince Friedrich zu Mecklenburg .

The portrait painter and copperplate engraver Georg David Matthieu is a child from a second marriage, the portrait and history painter Leopold Matthieu (1750–1778) and the genre and still life painter Rosina Christiana Ludovica Matthieu (1748–1795) are children from their third marriage.
